Newbie land Skills
In guild wars original, I made a ranger/mesmer, but left the newbie area and headed "two years later" a bit too early I think, did I miss any special skills?for example, I didnt get the animal taming skill, was I supposed to get it back then? I left with only 5 skills, was I supposed to get more?

There are quests in the "two years later" that offer same skills as rewards as what you have got in pre-searing. Think you might need to buy the Charm Animal skill from a skill trainer though.

You should wait til you are lvl 7 or so to leave presear. Not only for the skills, but for the training of those skills.
People are always in such a hurry. Take your time, learn your profession, then go to post. |

As a Ranger/Mesmer, you could have picked up the following skills:
Power Shot and Troll Unguent from the Ranger's Test right outside Ascalon City Charm Animal and Comfort Animal from Master Ranger Nente in Regent Valley Read The Wind and Point Blank Shot from Ivor Trueshot in Regent Valley Ignite Arrows and Dual Shot from Aidan in Wizard's Folly Conjure Phantasm, Imagined Burden and Ether Feast from Althea in Lakeside County Backfire and Shatter Delusions from Vassar in Foible's Fair Resurrection Signet from Lina the Healer by the rez shrine outside Ascalon City So 14 skills in total that a R/Me can collect before going to post. GW Wiki offers a Pre-Searing Checklist of important quests and things to pick up before you leave the area. |

I will tell you outright you missed Master Nente, Ivor Trueshot, Aiden, and Vassar if you only had 5.
Lesson for all you new folks, IF there is a green"!" over someone's head, it means you need to stop and read what's there. It will only help you later on. Now, as stated you can buy all the skills you missed using skill points and money right in Ascalon City. |

There's also quests for a few of those skills too, but I don't remember which ones off the top of my head. And for those saying you should've stayed longer, don't worry too much about it. Level 5 is still pretty good and you will have plenty of time to learn the ins and outs of being a ranger as you go through the game.

start over. espically if this is your first character. you do NOT know how to play until you have finished pre-searing and you will just be an annoyance to your group members.

Start over? Oh please. He won't even really need to get into a PuG until Great Northern Wall (if even that soon) and that mission is very hard to fail (maybe if you don't know which way to run back, you could fail then).
Just do the quests you see (some of the skills you missed will be available to get for free from quests. For example:Endangered Species,Mesmerizing the Enemy) and buy the skills you're missing. You have plenty of time to figure out how to play your character (though Pre is the ideal place, you still have a little wiggle room in Post). |

Starting over for a first time character isn't a bad idea, but maybe just roll another character. Hope he got a Pet...
The reason why starting over isn't a bad idea is that the OP is going to have to spend cash for skills that would have been free in Pre-Sear and also have earned him experiences points. There's a lot more to Pre-Sear than most people realize the first time around: -Skullreaver, the undead "boss" in the Catacombs -The Drinking Game guys in Regent Valley -The various entrances and exits of the catacombs -The different collector locations for better armor -A hint of Post Sear Across the Northern Wall And, probably more I'm not remembering... Additionally, the player may not have taken the time to get collector armor or the best possible weapon before leaving for the Academy. Better armor can give you the edge your skill or experience lacks. Getting to Old Ascalon as a level 4 on your very first character can be a little unsettling. I usually wait until level 8, Pre-Sear is fun. And, sure, it's all easy after you have done it 8 times in a row. |
